Marisa LaRen is an acclaimed tattoo artist, fitness competitor, 1st Phorm athlete, and model. LaRen was born on February 7th, 1991 in Meeker, Colorado, making her 25 years old. She grew up in the small Western town of Grand Junction, Colorado on a 54 acre family farm. LaRen has spoken briefly about her dysfunctional family life, where she experienced a bipolar, and alchoholic mother. Homeschooled until the 6th grade, she was exposed to sports upon entering the public school system. She maintained a love of physical activity throughout her high school years, where she participated in varsity softball, golf, and snowboarding. LaRen recalls that the active, healthy lifestyle she possessed in her youth didn’t come with her to college. Partying became a new normal and the once fit LaRen gained more than 55 lbs within her first semester at college. “I was unhappy physically and mentally,” she shares.
The taxing party lifestyle of college didn’t keep LaRen down for long, however. After realizing the toll her choices were taking on her body, she decided to make a radical change. In 2009, she began weight training and “fell in love.” Shortly following her introduction to weightlifting, a snowboarding accident left her with compressed spinal discs and a 1-inch reduction in her height. This initial accident led the way for countless other physical injuries and issues. To help alleviate the chronic pain, LaRen continued weightlifting. In 2013, the then 22 year old athlete committed to participating in her first ever fitness competition. She cites this initial decision made her career in the fitness industry a reality, instead of just a dream. Just 1 year after deciding to pursue a life of professional fitness, she ranked 3rd in the 2014 Colorado State Fitness Competition. She was picked up as a spokesathlete for 1st Phorm, a fitness supplement company. She maintains this position at 1st Phorm to this day.
In addition to her accomplishments as a fitness competitor, Marisa LaRen is a talented tattoo artist. After entering the public school system, LaRen was exposed to tattoo artistry as a means of personal expression. She traces her fascination with tattoos to her love of the hardcore and metal music scenes, where many of her idols were heavily tattooed. She got her first tattoo when she was 19, despite having wanted one since she was 11. LaRen has said that most of her tattoos follow a macabre, dark theme. A break in her career as a tattoo artist came when she became a contestant on the 6th season of Spike’s popular show, Ink Masters. With just 3 years of experience as an apprentice under Erik Campbell, Ink Masters was her chance to prove herself in the public arena as a legitimate artist. After going head to head with her mentor in a series of challenges, she faced elimination from the show and didn’t take the title. She currently works at Vatican Tattoos and Timeless Craft Tattoos in Ft. Lauderdale, and Coral Springs, respectively.
LaRen occasionally works as a model when she is not training or tattooing, saying that she hopes that it opens her up to new opportunities in the future.
